IM+ Now With Push

26/06/2009

Picture 1IM+, the popular instant messaging application from Shape Services, has recently been updated and will now support push notifications. This means it’s the first app in the AppStore to provide push notifications for both the Twitter and Skype services. Although the competition, BeejiveIM and AIM, have supported the push service for a few days, neither provide support for Twitter and Skype.

In the UK, IM+ is the most popular choice for instant messaging, and currently boasts a 4 and 1/2 star rating on iTunes. It’s quality however is reflected in the price, and if you haven’t already got it, it will set you back ¬£5.99. IM+ supports a long list of services and as well as Twitter and Skype, you can also use the following:

  • Facebook
  • Yahoo
  • MSN/Windows Live
  • AIM
  • iChat/MobileMe
  • ICQ
  • Google Talk
  • MySpaceIM
  • Jabber

The possibilities with this app really are great. You can send photos and MP3s to your friends, send your “geo-location” to let them know where you are, customise the background wallpaper, express yourself with a large selection of emoticons, and with the new push feature, you won’t even get disconnected when you receive a phone call, or need to close the app to do something else.

I’m not a huge instant-messenger-man myself, but when I do log on for a chat, IM+ is the app I prefer. So far it’s been well worth the money and personally, I haven’t come across any short falls. With regular updates to the app, any bugs that may be present are soon ironed out.

If you’re looking for a full-featured instant messenger to get you chatting whilst you’re out and about, IM+ comes highly recommended. If you’re in the UK, you can find it here.
