Ultrasn0w Now Available for Download

iphone_unlockedLast week I posted regarding Dev-Team’s rapid release of their PwnageTool for the 3.0 firmware for the iPhone & iPod Touch. Until now it was possible to jailbreak the phone, however there was no software unlock. Now that’s all changed.

Today the Dev-Team made the first release of Ultrasn0w available for download. Ultrasn0w is quite different to PwnageTool — instead of using your Mac to do most of the work, you download the release from Cydia or Icy, to your iPhone, and it all happens there. The instructions to do this are as follows:

  • First ensure you have downloaded and installed the 3.0 firmware, available through iTunes.
  • Jailbreak your iPhone using the aforementioned PwnageTool, or with the Dev-Team’s “redsn0w” release. This will also install the apps Cydia & Icy.
  • Run Cydia or Icy on your device.
  • Click on the “sources” tab in Icy, or “manage” then “sources” in Cydia and add the following repository: Ensure the “0” in Ultrasn0w is a zero, otherwise it won’t work.
  • Once the repository is added, go back and search for “ultrasn0w” and install the package.
  • Reboot your device.

You should now have successfully performed a soft unlock. If you have any problems, you can simply restore your device and start all over again.

I advise you perform a backup before doing any of this, and please read the “official” instructions on the Dev-Team’s website. You do this at your own risk.

If you try out Ultrasn0w, please let us know how it goes by leaving a comment.
